Fall & Spring 2017
CONTEXT
Starting out 2016, I wanted to be a wedding planner. I admired the role of assisting a couple in achieving everything they wanted out of their big day and I dreamed of being a part of that process. After getting a job in the industry and test-driving this idea for myself, I came to realize that there was so much more to it than meets the eye. There were not only gaps in efficiency in wedding planning, but also in morale and ethics. Through many hours spent learning the ropes of what it meant to becoming a wedding planner, I identified design problems

PROBLEM
I’ve developed an app that addresses three issues in the industry. The first is the wedding planner mindset that theirs and the guests’ opinions matter more than the couple getting married. The second is the lack of inclusivity of same-sex couples because the marriage industry has historically catered to heterosexual couples. The third is the complicated legal aspects that positions vendors and couples against each other.

SOLUTION
My solution is Olive Juice, a service design application that rethinks the wedding planning process by approaching it in a positive way for every kind of couple. It is a simple and seamless approach to help all members of the party—including vendors—achieve their tasks. From the proposal to the thank you notes, this is more than just a wedding checklist. Olive Juice is your getter-done-er, celebratory champagne toast, fist-pumping ’cause you’re one step closer, more-time-for-me-time, task-diminisher. My goal is to make it more about the big day, and less about the planning to get there.
